Treatment of Rubber Glove Wastewater by Ultrafiltration
نویسندگان
چکیده
The feasibility of using flat-sheet ultrafiltration polyethersulfone (PES) membranes for treatment of effluent from a rubber glove factory has been investigated. Membranes of molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) 100 kDa and 10 kDa were operated in cross-flow filtration to evaluate the efficiency of rejections of certain selected parameters in the wastewater. The membrane operation was carried out at a condition of 1.0 bar for the inlet pressure and 0.2 bar for the outlet pressure. The parameters tested were chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS), ammoniacal nitrogen (AN), total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), turbidity, pH, colour and trace metals. In addition, COD tests were also carried out for dead-end filtration of filter paper for comparison. The overall best results came from cross-flow filtration of 10 kDa membranes, where high percentage of rejection was recorded for COD (73.07%), TSS (90.61%) and turbidity (96.60%). The results also showed that the permeate produced can be safely discharged into watercourses in compliance with the legal requirements of Malaysia’s environmental laws and regulations. (

Treatment of natural rubber industry wastewater through a combination of physicochemical and ozonation processes
In any type of rubber product manufacturing (including tires), the primary concerns are environmental. The aim of the present study was to survey a treatment combination of ozonation and physicochemical processes in the rubber industry. Wastewater samples were collected from the discharge unit of the rubber processing sewage system in Kerman Barez Tire Factory, Kerman, Iran. The wastewater samp...
متن کاملAPPLICATION OF EVOLUTIONARY POLYNOMIAL REGRESSION IN ULTRAFILTRATION SYSTEMS CONSIDERING THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT PARAMETERS ON OILY WASTEWATER TREATMENT
In the present work, the effects of operating conditions including pH, transmembrane pressure, oil concentration, and temperature on fouling resistance and the rejection of turbidity for a polymeric membrane in an ultrafiltration system of wastewater treatment were studied. A new modeling technique called evolutionary polynomial regression (EPR) was investigated. EPR is a method based on regres...
متن کاملSingle Step Preparation of Zirconia Ultrafi ltration Membrane over Clay-Alumina Based Multichannel Ceramic Support for Wastewater Treatment
Zirconia ultrafiltration membranes are widely developed and used for past several years. But the conventional sol-gel methods of zirconia membrane preparation involve many steps. In the present study an attempt was made to develop defect free zirconia ultrafiltration (UF) membrane in single step coating of zirconia nanopowder suspension by slip casting method over multichannel ceramic support. ...
متن کاملCommentary on Appropriate Wastewater Treatment System for a Natural Rubber Processing Factory
In this commentary, the process performance of natural rubber processing wastewater systems was evaluated and compared. The key factors evaluated in here comprised the following: the type of wastewater, the prevention of system clogging by coagulated rubber, and the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This commentary examined these variables in existing systems and in a pilot-scale rea...
